CROWN/BRIDGE

Porcelain crowns are dental appliances that entirely cover the surface of a tooth. Although crowns in one form or another have been used in dentistry for many decades, porcelain crowns have become increasingly popular with both dentists and patients over the past few years. There is good reason for this popularity, since the porcelain material is extremely durable and can be made to very closely match the color of the patient’s natural teeth.

Who Are Good Candidates for Porcelain Crowns?

Crowns are typically recommended for teeth that are so badly decayed that they can’t hold a filling. In those cases, porcelain crowns are often an excellent choice. But there are other circumstances that might call for a crown as well, such as patients who have any of the following: A chipped or broken tooth A tooth that is misshaped in some way A tooth that has undergone a root canal The Process Involved in Getting a Porcelain Crown The procedure involved in getting a new porcelain crown is very much like getting any other sort of crown. Your dentist will first make an impression of your existing tooth. That impression will be used to create your new crown. Then your dentist will remove any decay that is present, thoroughly clean the tooth surface, and provide you with a temporary crown that you can wear until your permanent crown is ready. This procedure typically requires two visits to our office – the first to prepare your tooth, and the second to fit you with your new porcelain crown.   If you are missing one or more teeth, it’s important to replace those teeth. If you don’t, your other teeth will eventually shift. When your teeth change position in this way, it can have a negative impact on your bite and may make chewing food more difficult. Fortunately, there are several different alternatives for replacing missing teeth. One popular method is a dental bridge. At Forever Smiles, we are pleased to offer dental bridges as one of many services .

What You Should Know about Dental Bridges?

A bridge is a dental prosthesis used to replace missing teeth. Bridges typically fit over natural teeth, which hold the bridge in place. There are two types of dental bridges: “fixed” bridges, or those that cannot be removed by the patient; and removable bridges. These sturdy dental appliances are very strong and usually last for many years. Bridges are often an excellent choice for people who are missing one or more teeth, who want to fix an unattractive smile, or people who have large gaps in between existing teeth.

Are You a Candidate for a Dental Bridge?

There’s one thing that is absolutely certain: if you are missing one or more teeth, it’s important to choose a means to replace those teeth. If you don’t, your other teeth will shift, and that can create a myriad of other problems. A dental bridge is only one way to replace teeth. There are other options as well. To determine whether or not you are a good candidate for a dental bridge, you should meet with your dentist and discuss the alternatives. We can assess your dental health and personal habits, and help you decide which choice is best for you.
